RedShiftBio showcases new analytical techniques at PepTalk 2018

PepTalk: The Protein Science Week is one of the largest annual gatherings of protein science researchers in the world. The RedShiftBio team attended in January to present a poster on Thermal Denaturation Analysis of Bovine Serum Albumin by Microfluidic Modulation Spectroscopy. We got to meet with many of the nearly 1,300 experts from academia, biotech and pharma at the conference, to tell them about our Microfluidic Modulation Spectroscopy (MMS) technology which we are developing into a new platform. MMS has drawn great attention from both the pharmaceutical industry and academia. People are particularly interested in MMS’ combination of flow cell technology and IR characterization capabilities for protein structure.

One of the key themes from the conference was the need for new analytical techniques to accelerate the development of life-saving biotherapeutics; a topic that looks set to continue to be a driver for researching alternative analytical techniques for secondary protein characterization.

Most of the biophysical characterization specialists we spoke to were looking for a technique that enables them to “see change” in proteins over a wide concentration range with high sensitivity, as this will greatly simplify their workflow and analytical comparisons. We were able to demonstrate that MMS provides the most comprehensive structural information across multiple measurements, replacing the requirement to run samples on multiple instruments.
